Клермон-Ферран: Guide

Клермон-Ферран () — город и коммуна на юге центральной части Франции, столица регионы Франции|региона Овернь (регион)|Овернь и префектура (административный центр) департаменты Франции|департамента Пюи-де-Дом. Население 137 тыс. человек (1999).

География

Город расположен на так называемом Центральный массив|Центральном массиве, на высоте порядка 410 м над уровнем моря. В окрестностях много гор (гряда Пюи), в том числе потухших вулканов.

История

Столица Оверни — один из древнейших городов Франции, греческий историк Страбон упоминает его под названием Немессос.

В 848 г. город получил название Клермон. Правителем его в раннее средневековье был епископ. Именно Клермон стал базой первого крестового похода.

Клермон-Ферран — родина Паскаль, Блез|Блеза Паскаля.

Экономика

Транспортный узел (пересечение ряда автомобильных и железных дорог). Имеется аэропорт.

В городе расположена штаб-квартира всемирно известного производителя шин Michelin; в городе расположен ряд предприятий компании. Также имеются предприятия машиностроительной, текстильной, полиграфической, бумажной, химической, пищевой промышленности.

Достопримечательности, культура

Сохранился ряд архитектурных памятников XII—XVIII веков (церковь Notre-Dam du Port, собор Notre-Dame de I’Assomption (Клермонский собор) и др.). Главная городская площадь носит имя place de Jaude; на ней расположена конная статуя Верцингеторига

Университет (основан 1810). Археологический музей, музей изящных искусств. С 1979 в городе проводится международный ежегодный фестиваль короткометражного кино.

Близ города расположен курортный городок Руайя (Royat). Также рядом с Клермон-Ферраном — вулканологический парк «Вулкания».
