Глазго: Guide

Гла́зго (, ) — город в Великобритания|Великобритании, расположенный на востоке центральной части Шотландия|Шотландии, на берегах реки Клайд (река)|Клайд. Административный центр области Глазго (область)|Глазго. Население, в 1960-х достигавшее 1,1 млн. человек, к настоящему времени сократилось до 612 тыс. человек. Тем не менее Глазго остаётся самым крупным городом Шотландии.

История

Кельтские племена населяли долину Клайда за несколько столетий до нашей эры. Придя в Британию, Древний Рим|римляне соорудили здесь свои укрепления, в частности вал Антонина, призванную защитить бриттов от набегов с севера более диких племён скоттов и пиктов. Остатки этой стены сохранились в городе до сих пор.
