Антве́рпен (, ) — город во Фландрия|Фландрии, в Бельгия|Бельгии. Второй (после Брюссель|Брюсселя) город страны, самый большой город Фландрии. Административный центр провинции Антверпен (провинция)|Антверпен.
География
Город расположен на обеих берегах реки Шельда (река)|Шельды. Морской порт, входит в десятку крупнейших портов мира.
История
Точная дата возникновения города неизвестна, приблизительно город возник в VII век|VII веке. После упадка Брюгге в XII век|XII веке и до Восьмидесятилетней войны Антверпен был самым богатым торговым городом Нидерландов.
Экономика
Крупный промышленный центр: нефтехимическая промышленность, машиностроение и другие отрасли промышленности, атомная энергетика.
Антверпен — мировой центр обработки и торговли алмазами. Традиционно торговлей и обработкой алмазов занимаются представители многочисленной еврейской общины.
Крупный образовательный центр: университет, несколько высших школ.
Транспорт
Скоростные автомагистрали связывают Антверпен с Гент|Гентом, Брюссель|Брюсселем, Хасселт|Хасселтом и Бреда|Бредой (Нидерланды). В настоящее время ведутся работы по включению Антверпена в сеть высокоскоростных железнодорожный транспорт|железных дорог.
Городской общественный транспорт представлен автобус|автобусами и линиями обычного и подземного трамвай|трамвая (сами антверпенцы зачастую гордо используют термин «метро»). В перспективе возможно превращение линий подземного трамвая в полноценное метрополитен|метро.
